“THE ALL-SUFFICIENCY OF THE BIBLE”

INTRODUCTION:

I.       Have you ever been frustrated by a map?

A.      You look up a street or road, go where the map says it is, only to find that they have made a mistake, and it was not there…

II.      What if you had a map that was never wrong?

A.      How much would you be willing to pay for such an instrument?

1.       That depends on how much you need and value the information.

a.       If your livelihood depended on it, it would be viewed as an essential investment, wouldn’t it?

III.    There is such a perfect map!

A.      No, it won’t give you directions to every off-the-beaten- path street in Abilene, but it will do something far more important:

                   1.       It will show you the directions to HEAVEN!

                             a.       Of course, I am talking about the Bible.

B.       And just like that mythical earthly map that was never wrong, for which you were willing to make a huge investment, the Bible is real, and produces perfect directions that will not just improve your life now  but will save your soul for eternity!

IV.     “How do I know the Bible is all-sufficient?” You ask…

          A.      You can depend on the Bible because…

Ž   THE BIBLE MEETS EVERY MORAL AND ETHICAL NEED.

          C.       When we are weak… Eph 6.10

y   THE BIBLE CONTAINS ALL TRUTH.

A.                Pilate the Roman governor, asked the question that still plagues the doubtful mind of modern, secular man – John 18.37b, 38

B.                 Jesus John 8.32; 14.1-3, 26; 16.13; Jude 3

z    THE BIBLE TELLS US HOW TO PRODUCE REMARKABLE  RESULTS IN OUR LIVES.

{   THE BIBLE EXPOSES FALSE IDEAS AND DIRECTIONS.

          A.      I John 4.1; Eph 4.14, 15

1.                 The Bible helps us expose false ideas of salvation.

2.                 The Bible helps us expose false ideas about morals, ethics and character.

3.                 The Bible helps us expose false ideas about worship, both what we do and how we do it.

4.       The Bible helps us expose false ideas about the church and how we are to conduct ourselves in it.  I Tim 3:15

5.       The Bible helps us expose false ideas about marriage and the home.

6.       The Bible helps us expose false ideas about the sanctity of Life, when it begins and how to acceptably terminate it.

B.       I was absolutely appalled the other evening when a self-acknowledged secularist said basically that Bible-believing, Bible-practicing Christians have no place in the arena of ideas about abortion and euthanasia!!

1.       His contention was that only the non-believing, secular mind is capable of rationally and unemotionally deciding when it begins and when it should end!!

a.       II Cor 10.3-6 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…”

2.       We do have a voice in the arena of public ideas and the Bible gives us the ammunition to fight and ungodly and unethical world lead by none other than the devil himself!!

CONCLUSION:

I.       Brothers and sister, we are in an all-out battle for the mind, heart and soul of man…let’s never underestimate the power of the Bible, and let’s never underestimate the importance of study!

A.      I Pet 3.15 “In your hearts set apart Christ as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…”

II.      As we said in the beginning of our lesson…

A.      Your respect and genuine love for the Bible will determine how much you value it and how much you study!

1.       Psa 119.48 “I will lift up my hands to your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes.”
